Caring For Your Teeth

Your Child's Teeth

The American Dental Association recommends that you schedule your child's first visit to the dentist within six months of the appearance of their first tooth. As baby teeth loosen, it is important to let them fall out on their own so that the adult teeth behind them will grow in properly. Around twelve, all of your child's baby teeth (also known as primary teeth) should be replaced by permanent teeth.

It is important to get your child into the habit of practicing good oral hygiene from the very beginning. Especially since around the age of six, each of their back molars will grow in as adult teeth--so there are no second chances with these teeth! By teaching your children to take proper care of their teeth early on, you help enhance their long-term oral health as well as to ensure that their experience and comfort level at the dentist will be positive.
