Bridges

When a tooth is missing, a replacement tooth can be created to "bridge" the surrounding teeth together. The neighboring teeth are referred to as abutments, while the surrogate tooth is known as a pontic.

There are several different types of bridges, and the specific type that Dr. Zane selects depends on various factors. The condition of the teeth surrounding the missing area, as well as the way the opposing teeth meet, are extremely important determinants. However, if the abutments are strong, healthy or natural teeth, an implant is usually recommended in lieu of a bridge.
