Missing Teeth

When teeth are missing or extracted, it is very important to replace them. Teeth are dynamic and constantly shift as you age. In fact, if a tooth is missing, the tooth on the opposite side will grow up (or down) towards it to try to fill the empty space.

Many different options exist to replace missing teeth such as dentures, bridges and implants-all which offer quality esthetics. Deciding which route to take depends on several factors:

  • Where is the missing tooth located in your mouth? Are the teeth surrounding the missing area strong, healthy and natural?
  • Consider your present oral health situation. Are you happy with the teeth you already have? Are you looking to make any changes?
  • Consider how much time you are willing to invest in the procedure from start to finish. Bridges and dentures take less time to create than implants. However, implants require the least amount of maintenance (just brush and floss like your other teeth) but provide the most aesthetically pleasing result.
  • How much time are you realistically willing to commit to caring for your new teeth? Each option differs in the amount of time it takes to brush, floss and maintain. Think about whether you would like a removable appliance or one that is fixed permanently in place.
  • You will also want to weigh the financial aspects necessary in investing in your new teeth or even your new smile.
